National Roots Day

December 23rd

Around the Holidays, there is a natural tendency to think about families.  Lately there has been even more interest in genealogy — or our genetic backgrounds, our ancestries.   This is a great day to invite friends over.  Ask them to bring their family trees.  Talk about what we all  know, regarding our own ancestors and genealogies.   This can be a fascinating and surprising process.  Maybe you can trace your genealogy in more detail.  There are a few ways to do this.  Just look up genealogy search on the Web.  Knowing where we come from always makes for great conversation.

Ice Cream Day

December 13th

Okay, I know that a lot of you already celebrate National Ice Cream Day in July (3rd Sunday).  In fact, I know that you are aware of President Reagan’s designation of July as National Ice Cream Month.   But, for some reason, there is an Ice Cream Day in December.  Go figure!   To me, having another Ice Cream Day makes perfect sense.  We have another excuse to celebrate and enjoy one of my favorite desserts — Cookies and Cream Ice Cream!   Take a special friend out for ice cream on this day.  Always fun.   Keep up the Holiday celebrating!

Santa’s List Day

December 4th

Today, Santa and his elves come up with 2 lists.  One short list for those children that have been naughty, and a longer second list for those that have been nice.   Which list would you be on?   I suggest that you use this day to make your own gift list.   Santa can take of his lists.  You can perhaps get together with friends and family.  Get an idea of what they might want for Holiday gifts or ideas.   Celebrate the start of the Holiday Season by sharing something special, like Egg Nog Frappaccino and maybe just a few delicacies.  I like cinnamon rolls.   Remember, gifts can be actions and items.   Maybe a neighbor needs help in their yard, or assistance with a chore.   Be creative!

Eat a Read Apple Day

December 1st

I like apples.   They are good for you, and they are sweet.   I really like to combine my apple slices with peanut butter.   I suggest that you invite some friends over on this day.  Ask them to bring their favorite apple treats.  Share them.   Maybe take some time to visit an apple orchard so that you can do some apple picking.  Always fun!

National Go Caroling Day

December 20th

This is a really fun thing to do.   Everyone likes Christmas Carols.   Nothing better than going around with your friends, and singing Holiday Carols.   Be sure to practice before and then enjoy the experience.  After singing, I suggest you go to your favorite coffee place, so you can have a hot chocolate, cocoa, or apple cider.

National Card Playing Day

December 28th

Getting together with friends during the Holidays is always a good idea.  Invite them over, or have a friend host a night when you play cards.  Everyone has a favorite card game.   I really like Uno.  Guess Who? is another fun game.  This is like a memory game.  What is nice about playing cards is that you can socialize, perhaps share some leftovers from your Holiday celebrations, and just enjoy each other’s company.   My favorite treat to bring is a pumpkin pie.

National Brownie Day

December 8th

To celebrate this day u can grab your friends and go out and have a brownie for desert somewhere after dinner or u can make them at home with your family and to decorate for this holiday u can use lights that have brownies on them and u can use a garland that has brownies it and it Says Happy National Brownie day and can u use a yard sign in your yard that has a Brownie on it and it says Happy National Brownie day and u can get a banner that has brownies on it and it says Happy National Brownie day and can put up inside or outside the house and u can get a lighted window sign that has a brownie on it and it says Happy National Brownie Day and u put it in any window inside the house

Santa’s List Day

December 4th

So, this is a very unique day.  Santa’s elves have helped him make two lists.  One for those that have been nice, and one for those that have been naughty.  Which list are you on?  I suggest that you celebrate the Santa’s List Day, and I presume that you will be on the “Nice List.”  Create your own Nice List, and put this in your home or office.   I suggest having a pumpkin spice frappuccino with your friends and other Holiday treats while you compile your lists.

December 25th

This is a very special Holiday for many all over the world.  The decorations we use to celebrate this holiday are unique.  You will need a Christmas tree, and Christmas stockings.  As a unique touch to your own lighting preferences, try icicle lights.  My Holiday favorite meal for Christmas Eve is spaghetti with meatballs.  Red sauce, of course!   And, a warm eggnog is excellent while decorating, but for dinner, sparkling cider pairs well with spaghetti – I think!

December 24th

The Festival of Lights is a beautiful, Jewish tradition.  Amazing what a little lamp oil can do, and represent!  I suggest finding blue lights and a Menorah.  Consider lighting a candle over the 8 days of this celebration and giving a gift (small) to a friend on each day.   There are garlands with a Menorah at most Holiday Stores.
