National Walk to Work Day

April 6th (First Friday of April, Each Year)

The US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mr. Tommy G. Thompson, started this day.  I really like the idea of walking to work for exercise.   I suggest you and your friends walk to work, after stopping at you favorite coffee shop.  Then, walk home after work.  Exercise is very good for us.  I try to exercise 5 times per week.   Good idea to make walking to and from work a regular habit.  Don’t you think!

National Beer Eve Day

April 7th

This is very interesting day.  The day celebrates the end of Prohibition.   The effective date was April 7th, but President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law the Cullen-Harrison Act.  This effectively ended Prohibition.  Americans lined up at bars the evening before April 7th (National New Beer’s Eve) so that they could be among the first to drink beer, just after the stroke of midnight.  Personally, I don’t drink alcoholic beer.   I suggest that you have a beer with friends.   Maybe at a local pub or restaurant.   Have a designated driver.  Cheers!

National Pretzel Day

 April 26th

Did you know that the first Pretzels were modeled after children’s arms, folded in prayer?   I like Pretzels.   I favor bigger Pretzels, with a little more dough.  I like salt.  Nothing more.   On this day, invite friends to sample different types of Pretzels.   Maybe watch a movie together, and try different ways to eat Pretzels.

National Prime Rib Day

April 27th

To celebrate this holiday, go to a favorite steakhouse.  Order a prime rib with mashed potatoes.  Go with your boyfriend, girlfriend, or your family members.   I like my prime rib cooked medium rare.   My favorite steakhouse is Black Angus.   To keep your meal healthy, start with a salad.   I prefer a Caesar’s salad.  You can have dessert, just exercise a little more that day.  My favorite dessert is Red Velvet cake!  Yum!

National Garlic Day

April 19th

My favorite garlic-type food is garlic bread.   It goes well with spaghetti.  I plan to invite friends over for dinner, so we can enjoy this combination of excellent food.  I am sure you know this already, but garlic is a natural medicine, of sorts.  It can help with your aches and pains.  It is good for your heart and vascular system.   The only downside is how garlic affects your breath.  This could be a problem, unless you have your friend also share in the meal that has garlic.  That way, both of you can enjoy the garlic, and won’t really notice the smell of garlic on each other’s breath.

National Walk to Work Day

April 7th (First Friday of April)

On this day, I plan to skip ACCESS and walk to my place of employment.  Whew!  This is about 5 miles.  I walked home from my work a little while back — accidentally.  My ride didn’t show, so, I walked.  Took me 2 hours.  I was tired, but I enjoyed the walk.  I would like to do this again.  I recommend walking with a friend.  It is not only safe, but fun.  As you are walking home, stop at your nearby Starbuck’s and have your favorite drink.  Mine is always a Red Velvet Frappuccino, unless it is in the Fall or Winter, then I prefer a Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino.

National Grilled Cheese Day

April 12th

To celebrate this day, make your favorite type of grilled cheese sandwich on the stove or microwave.  Invite your friends and family over for lunch.   You can also go to your local restaurant and order one there.  They are pretty easy to make!   I would decorate your home or office, maybe with cheese containers or wrappers (clean, of course), and orange lights.  If you are really into this day, and you love grilled cheese, place a banner over your personal space or office that says, Happy National Grilled Cheese Day!  Just a really cool, and delicious day!

Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day

April 16th

Okay, this is a really cool idea.   Even if this day falls on a weekend, I recommend that you honor the day but wearing your favorite pajamas everywhere!  My favorite PJ’s have Curious George on them.  So, try to make sure most of or all of your coworkers or friends honor this day by wearing their PJ’s.   If you happen to be the only one wearing PJ’s, enjoy the fact that you are the most comfortable person around on that particular day.

Hanging Out Day

April 19th

This is a pretty interesting day.  It sounds like a day to hang out with friends, which I definitely think you should do.  But, this is really about saving energy.  So, on this day, hang your clean clothes out to dry, instead of using an electric or gas dryer.  The day is about saving energy, or at least calling attention to the need to save energy.  My recommendation is that you get together with friends, do laundry, and hang it out to dry, while you “Hang Out” with your friends.  Gives us a good excuse to visit, blog, and share holiday decoration ideas.

Prime Rib Day

April 27th

On this day, take your friends and family to your favorite steak house.  I like Black Angus.   Many restaurants offer specials on this day, so keep an open mind.  They may prepare prime rib in a way that you haven’t considered before.   Because I use my left hand, mostly, I ask to have my steak cut for me.  I like that because I can just enjoy the meal with less effort.
